Who We Are

A group of Hudson Valley residents, businesses and cultural and development groups working to make Beacon, New York the place to be for fun, entertainment, shopping, working and living.

We believe that Beacon is the perfect example of a blue collar art town, a community where neighbors of all stripes actually mix and mingle, where art and music are accessible to all and where everyone, regardless of background, has a place at the table and a voice in the conversation.

To that end several projects have been launched to create the next steps in the ever unfolding Hudson Valley renaissance.

Performance Space : Beacon

The centerpiece of our efforts is the renovation of the old Beacon theater on Main Street into a multi-space performing arts complex and visitor center. This eight million dollar project will produce a vibrant anchor for the east end of Main Street and provide countless patrons for our city's shops and restaurants.

The center will host live contemporary music performances from across the spectrum of genres, a resident live theatre company, and will show both first-run and specialty film. The main music hall willl seat 960, the flexible theatre space 150, and a new and improved “Wonder Bar” will crown the structure with cabaret seating for 120 and an outdoor rooftop terrace with views of Main Street and Mount Beacon.

Beekman Artist Banners

To prepare the economic soil and help promote the wide variety of shops, restaurants and galeries who have and continue to pioneer the revitalization of Main Street, The Beekman Street Artist Banners were created to help visitors find their way up from the train station to the center of town. beaconcool.com

An editorial web presence that indentifies and promotes interesting and entertaining groups, events, objects and experiences in and around Beacon in the areas of arts, outdoor activities, history and sightseeing. Promoting Beacon as a jumping off point for the coolr attractions of the Hudson Valley.

WUMPS - family puppet theatre

Supporting the premiere and subsequent tours of cabot | andcompany's full stage puppet piece based on Bill Peet's children's classic “The Wump World.” The story of what happens to a species of harmless herbavores when their planet is over run by a race of aliens called the Pollutians; with guest puppet design by Beacon artists Thundercut, and an original score by jazz greats Gwen Laster and Damon Banks.

Beacon Living Arts Council (BLAC)

While an organization to promote galleries exists, there has been no way for performance artists, groups and presenters to find common ground and assist each other in building Beacon as a haven for musicians, actors, film makers and the like. BLAC is a conduit for just that - finding collaborations, common projects and resources, social networking and cooperative fundraising.

Other projects in development -

original programming for the performance center, broadcast progamming in music and theatre, large scale public art pieces and outdoor performance festivals, student opportunities, public relations/marketing campaigns and development projects that continue to move Beacon forward.
